FIR filed over the death of a pregnant elephant in Kerala.

On Wednesday, in Kerala’s Malappuram, an FIR was filed against unidentified people in relation to the death of a pregnant elephant. The deceased animal was fed a pineapple stuffed with crackers and a Mannarkkad forest range officer stated that the FIR was lodged under the appropriate sections of the Wildlife Protection Act.

The elephant had suffered an injury in its lower jaw:
According to the officer, the incident took place on 27th May when the elephant was peacefully standing in water. The Silent Valley National Park’s wildlife officer further added that the animal died standing in river Velliyar after suffering an injury in its lower jaw. The elephant was spotted roaming around in the private area of the forest on 23rd May.  And the police said,” When one of our staff members went to see the elephant, it was observed that a wound in the lower jaw area was exposed. Later, for at least 24 hours the animal was trying to look for water. On 24th May, we received information that the animal has come into river Velliyar.”
A veterinary doctor was called immediately as the elephant had not eaten anything since a few days was weak and on a liquid diet, the officer revealed.

The vet doctor planned to take the elephant out of the river but before they could, the elephant collapsed. Two doctors will carry out the post-mortem after which the body of the deceased animal will be burnt.
