Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz: Cuba's Revolutionary prime minister, Fidel Castro

Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz was born on 13th august 1926 in a Cuban village named Biran. He was the son of a wealthy Spanish farmer. He played a vital role in the Cuban revolution, which overthrew the government of Fulgencio Batista, a dictator. He governed the Republic of Cuba as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1976. Also, he was elected as President of the Republic of Cuba from 1976 to 2008. He was a follower of Marx and Lenin. Thus, he adopted leftist and anti-imperialist politics while studying law at the University of Havana.

Later on, he actively participated as rebellions against right-wing governments in the Dominican Republic and Colombia. Castro, Raul Castro, and Che Guevara formed a revolutionary group against Fulgencio Batista, a dictator, and president of the Republic of Cuba. He named his group “The Movement” which operated along with a clandestine cell system. He sent to prison at North of Santiago for a conspiracy and participating in creating violence and killing hospital patients. In 1953, he was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in the hospital wing of the Model Prison.

In 1955, Castro and his supporters were released Castro renamed his group “26th of July Movement” (MR-26-7) in the memory of the Moncada attack’s date. He came in contact with Frank Sturgis and Alberto Bayo. Both taught and trained Castro’s troops in guerrilla warfare. Castro and his revolutionaries led guerrilla attacks against Fulgencio Batista’s force in a lush of green forest and mountain ranges of Sierra Maestra. In 1959, the revolution was successful, and Castro became Cuba’s Prime Minister. On the other hand, the USA government opposed Castro’s government and tried to demolish their government in various ways such as assassination, economic blockade, and counter-revolution. Castro came in contact with the Soviet Union to protect himself as well as his nation from the USA.

Castro supported anti-imperialist revolutionary groups backing the Marxist government in Chile, Nicaragua, and Grenada. He sent his troops in the Yom Kippur, Ogaden, and Angolan Civil war. In 2000, Castro forged alliances in Latin America “pink tide”.

He served the Republic of Cuba for five decades. Cuba became one of the best-educated and healthiest societies in the Third World as well as one of the most militarized states in Latin America under the leadership of Castro. According to the Human Development Index, the Republic of Cuba is ranked the eighth highest in North America and 67th in the world. It is dominated by the exports of sugar, tobacco, coffee and skilled labours. He was awarded (decorated) with various international awards and honours. For Example, Nelson Mandela and Ahmed Ben Bella awarded Castro as South Africa’s highest civilian award for foreigners (the Order of Good Hope).

Thus, the supporter of Castro used to say that he was a champion of socialism and anti-imperialism. According to myself, he was the most excellent leader of the millennium.
