Credit Suisse boss Horta-Osorio has resigned over Covid violations.
The global banking giant Credit Suisse Antonio Orta-Osorio resigned immediately after violating Covid quarantine rules.
After an internal investigation, Mr. Horta-Osorio had only worked at the bank for nine months. The former head of Lloyds Banking Group has moved to Credit Suisse after a series of scandals at the Swiss bank. But it turned out that he broke Covid rules last year, including attending the Wimbledon tennis final.
"I regret that a number of my actions have caused difficulties for the bank and affected my ability to represent the bank internally or externally," Horta-Osorio said in a statement issued by the bank.
Board member Axel Lehmann replaced Mr. Horta-Osorio. Last month, a preliminary investigation by Credit Suisse found Horta-Osorio had violated Covid-19 rules. She attended the Wimbledon tennis final in July when she was forced to quarantine due to Covid-19 restrictions in the UK.
According to Reuters, Mr. Horta-Osorio also flouted Switzerland's Covid restrictions when he flew into the country on November 28 but left on December 1. Swiss regulations mean he must be quarantined for ten days upon the arrival.
Mr. Horta-Osorio joined Credit Suisse in April last year after a series of scandals at the bank. In February 2020, then Credit Suisse CEO Tijane Thiam stepped down after it was revealed that the bank had been spying on senior officials. Thiam denied knowing about the espionage operation.
Credit Suisse also suffered heavy losses at failed financial firms Greensill - backed by Liberty Steel - and Archegos, the US hedge fund that collapsed last year.
