With a witty letter from Principal Coleman, Abbott Elementary announces the renewal of Season 2.

Key Takeaways:

Abbott Elementary School is getting ready for the new school year!

After a successful premiere in December 2021, the hit comedy series starring Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Chris Perfetti, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, and Sheryl Lee Ralph has been renewed for a second season.

On Monday, ABC announced the exciting news via a witty letter from Principal Ava Coleman, who James performs.

The note began, "Faculty as well as Students (aka My Fans)." "I'm a celebrity in the eyes of the camera crew I hired to document everything I've accomplished at our lovely school. Are we surprised? No, we're not like that:)."

"With that stated, it is with great pleasure that I inform you that they will be returning for the 2022-2023 school year!" continued the letter. "Yes, Abbott Elementary Season 2 is coming to a television near you."

"Although I'm a natural in front of the camera, these things don't come cheap, and my team is having trouble recognizing my full potential! Is there something about a lack of supplies? Anyway, I'd appreciate your assistance in getting them (Janine) off my back. "Principal Coleman wrote this before adding a link to DonorsChoose, a website that helps students and teachers get materials, technology, and other classroom necessities.

Abbot Elementary opened as a midseason entry in December 2021. The mockumentary sitcom, created by Brunson, follows a dedicated group of Philadelphia-based teachers as well as their daily lives performing at one of the country's worst public schools.

Brunson, 32, who plays second-grade teacher Janine Teagues, previously spoke with Harper's Bazaar about how the show became an overnight sensation.

"I don't know how it is that after only a few episodes [aired], there was such an outpouring of love, conversation, and general enjoyment of the show. I'm just overjoyed, "She told the news organization. "It was strange to feel compelled to withdraw from Twitter due to an excess of positivity. 'I don't understand what to do with all these nice messages and nice comments,' I said."

She went on to state, "Everyone is so used to binge-watching TV now, but we're only halfway through our season. There's a lot more to see, and I hope people enjoy it."

The cast and crew of Abbot Elementary have given back to students as well as teachers across the country before, as evidenced by Monday's announcement.

In a March interview with NPR's Fresh Air, Brunson disclosed that she had diverted a few of her show's marketing funds to donate supplies to teachers.

She explained, "We chose to put the marketing money toward teacher supplies," noting that the production team, as well as the network, agreed to reallocate some of the funds. "It's about being able to make the kinds of decisions that excite me, things that can help people in tangible ways."

Abbott Elementary will return to ABC on Tuesday, March 22, at 9 p.m. ET.
