US travelers meet a new wave of chaos as flight revocations continue

Key takeaways:

Travelers were subjected to a fresh wave of flight mess across the US on Sunday, with approximately 1,000 flights revoked. The toll added to nearly 14,000 flights within, out of, or into the US that was withdrawn or postponed on Friday and Saturday.

Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta was one of the worst-hit airports – the structure saw passengers left over the weekend as Delta canceled or changed dozens of scheduled planes.

Delta accused the delays and cancelations of advanced sick calls due to Covid-19, poor climate, and vendor staffing.

Last week, it intended to cancel 100 flights a day in July and August to stop summer travel disruptions.

“A mixture of factors continue to affect our operations, including challenges with air traffic management, weather, and unscheduled absences in some work groups,” a Delta representative said Saturday.

The Atlanta-based carrier has been one of the poorest impacted during the recent wave of disruption.
