US Fashion Collaboration With Gap Brand Alive In The UK.

Mark Breitbard, CEO of Gap Global, said: "Gap has partnered with Next, one of the UK's leading online apparel retailers, to grow our multi-channel business and meet our customers in the UK and Ireland where they now shop."



According to Natalie Berg, a retail analyst and founder of NBK Retail, the deal represents Gap's "best opportunity" to revive the brand. "The Gap brand may have disappeared, but it is still a brand with a long tradition," he told the . "The unpleasant truth is that they have too much business.

"What Next is doing with it, as a shop-in-store, is creating excitement and getting consumers into the store."

He says it's ironic to see Next and Gap come together when they're both mid-range high street brands that have been competing for the same buyer demographic for years. "The pandemic created freaks in bed - who would have thought Next and Gap would have gotten back together a few years ago?"

Problems with gaps

The gap is credited with changing cultural norms around clothing, making it socially acceptable for people of all ages to wear more casual attire such as hoodies, sweatshirts, t-shirts, khakis, jeans, and plains. Founded in the US in 1969, it thrived during its heyday until the late 1990s.

In 1987 the company opened its first store in London and by 2013 had amassed 123 stores in the UK. The shop and its clothing have also been criticized for keeping up with changing trends.
