Our Universe is governed by four basic forces that operate under the laws of physics. These four sources are gravity, electromagnetism, and the strong and weak nuclear forces. Gravity is perhaps the most obvious force.
It holds planets, solar systems, and even galaxies together. It operates on the largest scale relative to the other forces, yet gravity is actually a significantly weak force. When compared to electromagnetism, gravity as about 10-40 times weaker.
Despite the appearance, gravity is exceptionally weak. The electromagnetic force is perhaps the most prominent after gravity. Electromagnetism combines electricity and magnetism into the same force, unifying them to explain why a moving electric field induces a magnetic department and vice versa.
The other two forces, the strong weak nuclear forces, are perhaps less well known among the general person. The exposed nuclear force is responsible for active for holding individual atoms together. In order to fully explain our universe, science needs to find a way to combine each force into a single, unifies force.
They have been ready to do this with all the forces but gravity. Interestingly, gravity is an outlier among the four forces. Not only is it weakest, but scientists have got to describe it in terms of quantum mechanics. Unlike the other forces, scientists have not yet discovered a gravity carrying particle.
Each force has its own unique particle associated with it. Electromagnetism has photons, the weak nuclear force is carried by W and Z bosons, while the strong force is carried by the gluon. Physicists have theoretically predicted that gravity would be carried by a particle called the Graviton.
However, technological capabilities to discover this Particle has been calculated as being well beyond what we can reasonably do. As of yet, science has found no evidence that the graviton exists or how gravity operates on the quantum level.
