UK households offer £350 a month to take refugees

UK households are offered £350 per month to open their homes to people fleeing the war in Ukraine. Housing Minister Michael Gove told the that tens of thousands of people could come to Britain under the scheme, and he could offer refugee rooms. However, the Refugee Council is concerned about the level of support for war victims. Labor said there were unanswered questions and accused the government of "dragging" the crisis.

Under the Home for Ukraine program, people can nominate a designated individual or family to live with them without rent or other property for at least six months. A website to express interest in sponsorship will go live on Monday. Mr. Gove also told a show on Sunday morning that the government was considering using the property of the British-approved Russian oligarchs for "humanitarian purposes" but had "a rather high legal threshold" and that the measure would be reversed once the will expires. Penalty.

Retailers Sainsbury's, Marks & Spencer, and Morrisons are among companies in the UK offering jobs to Ukrainian refugees. Asos said it wanted to draw on Ukraine's strong technological capabilities, while soap shop Lush said it would open domestic outlets for refugees.

At a rally outside Downing Street on Sunday, Ukraine's Ambassador to the UK Vadim Pristaiko called for more support, arms, and humanitarian assistance. Local authorities are also getting £10,500 in additional refugee funds for support services - more for school-age children, the Department for Raising, Housing and Communities said.

The government has been criticized - including by its lawmakers - for the speed and scale of its response. Defending the government's response, Mr. Gove told the number of Ukrainians fleeing the war who had been granted visas had risen to 3,000. Only those who have fled the conflict and have family ties to the UK can apply through the Ukrainian Family Scheme.

Under the new scheme, UK sponsors do not need to know the refugees in advance, and there is no limit on the number. Ukrainian citizens under this program are allowed to stay for three years, with the right to work and access to public services.
