Thierry Mugler, a French fashion designer, has died at the age of 73.

His representatives said French fashion designer Thierry Mugler died at the age of 73. She is known for her wide-shouldered designs and strong stitching inspired by 1940s and 1950s luxury.

Mugler designs have been worn by the likes of David Bowie and Lady Gaga. In addition, she designed many stage costumes for Beyonce and designed Kim Kardashian's famous "wet dress" for the 2019 Met Gala.

The brand became famous for perfumes such as Angel and Alien in the following years. "It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of Mr. Manfred Thierry Mugler on Sunday, 23 January 2022," confirmed a post on Mugler's official Facebook account.

His agent told the AFP news agency that he died of natural causes. Born Manfred Thierry Mugler in 1948 in Strasbourg, France, he was a talented performer and dancer of the Ballet du Rhin until he was 14 years old.

With an early interest in making his clothes, Mugler opened his first boutique in Paris in the 1970s.

Mugler became known for his theatrical designs, which emphasized the hips and shoulders with a loose neckline and narrow waist. Mugler sold the rights to his name to Clarins in 1997, a few years after releasing his Angel perfume with the brand.

Said to be a hermit, he appears to have retired from fashion in the early 2000s, deciding to compose a one-off song for Lady Gaga and work as a creative consultant on Beyoncé's I AM world tour... in 2010.

The singer honors the designer on her website with a montage of the many creations she has made for him over the years, with the caption, "Rest in Peace Thierry Mugler."
