'There is no food and water,' says an Indian girl stranded in Ukraine.
An Indian student made the shocking claim as the government increased efforts to assist Indians stranded in Ukraine due to the ongoing clash with Russia.
Yashwi Garg, an Indian girl, stranded in Ukraine, claimed that "there is no food and water" and that the stock would only last 2-3 days.
"There isn't any food or water. "We only have stock for 2-3 days," Yashwi explained. She went on to say that "there is no support coming from anywhere" and that "we (Indian students) are on our own."
Several Indian students who had traveled to the airport expecting to catch a flight back to India were forced to return after Ukraine closed its airspace after the Russian attack.
The shocking claim came as the Indian government increased its efforts to assist its citizens who were stranded in Ukraine due to the ongoing conflict with Russia. On Thursday, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv launched an emergency helpline for Indian nationals stranded in Ukraine, just hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin authorized a military operation.
"The current situation in #Ukraine is highly uncertain; stage up a 24-hour emergency helpline. Which can be accessed by ringing +380 997300428, +380 997300483," said the Indian Embassy in Ukraine.
The Indian embassy also issued a new warning to Indian nationals, advising them to "remain calm and safe" wherever they are. "Please remain calm and safe wherever you are, whether in your homes, hostels, accommodations, or transit," the Indian embassy said in an advisory to Indians in Ukraine following Russia's military offensive against the eastern European country.
"Please remain calm and safe wherever you are, whether in your homes, hostels, accommodations, or transit," the Indian embassy advised Indians in Ukraine.
"All visitors to Kyiv are advised to return to their respective cities for the time being." "Further advisories will be issued shortly," it added.
