The Weekend won a Grammy for performing in Kanye West's song.

Earlier, The Weeknd said the three Grammys he won on Sunday night "mean nothing to me."  The Weeknd may have caught a cold from the Grammy Awards, but that didn't stop him from taking home the trophy on Sunday night. Even though the "Blinding Lights" singer publicly said he would boycott the annual award after his album "After Hours" was abandoned, the 32-year-old star won a Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his role in the song "Kanye West." Awards were announced during the pre-show TV show, and prizes were not broadcast during the TV portion of the evening. The Weeknd has expressed his feelings for the Grammys in the past, declaring in March 2021 that they had graduated from a recording academy.

Recording Academy executive Harvey Mason Jr. said, "We all get frustrated when someone gets angry," but "we are always improving." Earlier in January 2021, The Weeknd told Billboard that it felt like abandonment was an "attack" and tweeted that the Grammys "remain corrupt."

He also said the three Grammys he won before Sunday night — in 2017 for Starboy and 2015 for "Earned It" and Beauty Behind the Madness — "mean nothing to me." "Look, I don't care," he said. "I have three Grammy Awards, which means nothing to me right now. So it's not like, 'Oh, I want a Grammy! It just happened, and I have to face fire as long as it never happens again."
