The United States plans to file a lawsuit against Live Nation, the parent company of Ticketmaster.

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) is poised to file a lawsuit against Live Nation, a major entertainment conglomerate, as early as Thursday, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter who spoke to CBS News, the BBC's US partner.

Prosecutors are expected to challenge Live Nation's business practices, particularly those of its subsidiary Ticketmaster.

Typically, in cases concerning competition, the DOJ aims to compel companies to divest certain assets or alter their operational strategies. When approached by the BBC for comment, the DOJ declined, and similar requests have been made to Live Nation.

The federal government's legal action will be augmented by several state attorneys general, as reported by the Washington Post. This move follows a lengthy investigation by the DOJ's antitrust division, which began years ago.

CBS News revealed that the Justice Department was scrutinizing Live Nation and its Ticketmaster division. Live Nation Entertainment, formed in 2010 through the merger of Live Nation, a US-based events promoter, and Ticketmaster, has faced mounting criticism from fans, lawmakers, artists, and competitors.

Allegations have been made that the company wields excessive influence over live entertainment events both domestically and internationally.
