The Third And Last Season Of Happy Valley Is Here.

Key Sentence:

  • The acclaimed cop-heavy drama Happy Valley is returning for its third and final season.
  • The award-winning show follows Sarah Lancashire as police officer Catherine Cowwood in the fight against crime in Calderdale, Yorkshire.

James Norton will return as murderer and sex offender Tommy Lee Royce, and Sioban Fineran will reprise his role as Catherine's sister. The second season ended in 2016 with an average audience of 9.3 million. Spoiler alert - some minor plot details for the previous series and future episodes below.

Returning as Catherine Lancashire, she said, "It's time for the dogs to see the rabbits," while Norton said it was a "wonderful and terrifying privilege" to receive Tommy one last time. For the third six-part series, which will begin filming in early 2022, Catherine finds the remains of a gangster murder victim in an eastern reservoir.

This triggers a series of events that unknowingly lead him straight back to Royce.

The first two series created by Sally Wainwright won the Bafta TV Award for Best Dramatic Series and Best Screenplay. Lancashire also won the Bafta Award for Best Actress for the second series. The characters in both series struggle with intense and brutal storylines that focus on rape, multiple homicide, drugs, kidnapping, and human trafficking.

Catherine must face this brutality as she tries to manage a complex family life in which her granddaughter is raised after her mother, raped by her pregnancy, commits suicide. While Happy Valley's first and second series received more than healthy audiences and rave reviews from critics, some expressed concern about the amount of violence and graphic content, but Wainwright defended the scene.

Wainwright, who hinted at the show's return to the Edinburgh Television Festival earlier this year, said of the announcement, "It's great to see the long-term impact this series has on audiences around the world.

"I'm delighted Sarah, James and Shivon are back together for what is expected to be the best season so far." Pierce Wenger, drama director, said: "When Happy Valley first launched on the in 2014, it completely changed the scene of the crime scene.

"Sally has an incredible closeness that is sure to make this third and final series one of the most anticipated and most missed moments on television. Meanwhile, rumors are spreading about the seventh installment of another not-to-be-missed Chengen drama, Line of Duty.

Earlier this month, the show's creators joked with newspaper articles, claiming the show would return, despite no support. Jed Mercurio tweeted, "Tabloid announces new season of fake #LineofDuty," claims a TV insider. Speculation about the show was fueled by its immense popularity leading to the finale, which attracted 15.24 million viewers and made it Britain's most-watched dramatic series of the 21st century.
