The prop master for 'Rust' stated she found live bullets on set shortly after filming

Key Takeaways:

From an interview the prop mater on set had with Santa Fe County Sheriff's investigators, we're learning something about what happened the day Halyna Hutchins was slain on the set of the movie 'Rust' in Santa Fe.

Sarah Zachary, Rust's prop master, recalled, "I heard the shot go out there, and Joel scream." "When the bullet went off, I saw Hannah standing in front of it." She turned around and stated, "This wasn't intended to happen," adding, "My entire career is ruined."

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who oversaw the guns on set for 'Rust,' is the armorer Zachary refers to.

Zachary said she returned to the prop cart where the guns on set were stacked after the shooting and uncovered a stunning discovery.

"I went over to the cart, and I had a suspicion of what happened, um, and perhaps to see if there were any further live rounds in the box that she grabbed from." "I began shaking the rounds and discovered a few more," Zachary explained.

According to evidence images, PDQ Arm and Prop supplied the movie with ammo and weapons, and a bag labeled "live" was recovered from the Albuquerque-based prop shop.

Zachary says that on two additional occasions, the set weapons were misfired.

"The stunt double accidentally discharged the Henry Rifle." I'm not sure how he did it because he was in a cabin. "There was no one else in there," Zachary explained.

According to her, Zachary was involved in one of the misfires, which occurred when she was reloading one of the pistols.

"Things were an accident, and I always, if I'm assisting out, I always do it safely." And it was aimed at the ground with no missile, so no one was wounded," Zachary explained.

Safety bulletins, which are documentation designed to clarify the best safety measures onset, were never issued by associate director Dave Halls; Zachary ultimately informs investigators.

She also stated that safety meetings were rare.

"I think we just had a safety meeting once or twice," Zachary explained, "and I was just going over the initials of, or what guns we might use for that set."

No criminal charges have been filed towards anyone involved in the shooting yet.
