The guilty sexual assault verdict has left Jacob Hoggard 'disappointed'

Key Takeaways:

As per a statement from his lawyer, Canadian musician Jacob Hoggard is "disappointed" with the guilty judgment in his sexual assault case, which was handed down on Sunday.

The former Hedley frontman was convicted guilty of raping an Ottawa woman in 2016 but not convicted of groping and raping a juvenile fan the same year, which Hoggard was "grateful" for, according to his acquittal defense lawyer Megan Savard.

"While the result is not what Mr. Hoggard had hoped for, we appreciate the jury's diligence and thorough consideration, as well as their realization that the evidence on several counts was too fragile and risky to support a conviction," Savard said in a statement to CP24.

During what she described as a "profoundly trying period" for the disgraced singer, Savard stated Hoggard is leaning on his wife, friends, and family.

She also hinted that Hoggard would file an appeal, saying the case is "far from over." She stated that the Judicial of Appeal's attention would be given to "new concerns" that surfaced throughout the court proceedings.

Justice Gillian Roberts of Ontario Superior Court imposed harsher bail terms on Hoggard on Monday, stating that the "potential of a lengthy jail term greatly enhances the temptation to leave."

As a result, Hoggard must reside in Vancouver or at another location allowed by the court among the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Except for court hearings in Toronto, he must stay in British Columbia. Regular check-ins and random conformance checks will be expected of him. Hoggard is also prohibited from contacting either of the case's complainants.

He'll have to follow those rules until his sentencing, which will likely occur this summer.

Meanwhile, Hoggard is charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm in a second incident that reportedly occurred in Kirkland Lake, Ont., in June of 2016.

Hoggard has disputed the charge and intends to enter a not guilty plea.

Mr. Hoggard is looking forward to defending himself against the pending charge, according to Savard.
