Amber Heard fought back the tears as she testified how her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, violently assaulted her during their brief marriage. She claimed it started with slaps after she started laughing at one of his tattoos and progressed to a cocaine "cavity search" of her body. 

She alternated between crying and calmly speaking, explaining that she stayed with Johnny even though she wanted to believe his apologies and promises not to hit her again.

Amber testified for the first time in a widely watched defamation case brought by Johnny in the United States, claiming that the actors had a "magical" relationship until it turned violent. She claimed Johnny's first physical outburst occurred after she inquired about the meaning of one of his faded tattoos. 

He responded, "Wino," she said, and she laughed, thinking it was a joke. She stated, "He slapped me across the face." "I had no idea what was happening. I just locked my gaze on him." "You think it's funny, bit**?" he slapped her twice more, Amber claimed.

"I just laughed because I assume that he was joking," she said to People. She stated that the experience "changed my life" and that she will "never forget" it. He previously stated that the fight over the "Wino" tattoo, inspired by his former girlfriend Winona Ryder, "didn't happen."

Johnny assaulted Amber "several times," according to Amber, usually when he was drunk or high on drugs. Johnny became enraged and accused Amber of inviting what he perceived to be suggestive advances from another woman during a weekend away with friends in May 2013, Amber claimed. 

Amber claimed Johnny tore her dress, ripped her underwear off, and  stuck his fingers "inside" her that night. "He then conducts a cavity search," she explained. "He's looking for his cocaine and drugs."

Amber had previously told psychologist Dawn Hughes that Johnny had put his fingers up her vagina to look for cocaine.

Johnny, 58, testified before the trial that she was the one who abused him and that he never hit her. Amber, 36, is being sued for $50 million by the start of the Pirates of the Caribbean films and others, who claims she defamed him by claiming she was a victim of domestic abuse. Amber has filed a countersuit for $100 million, alleging that he slandered her by calling her a liar.
