One day, along with his friend Subhash Mandapalli was swimming around the Rushikonda beach in Andhra Pradesh state. Suddenly that got entangled in plastic nets. they went back home and got their equipment and they started searching for what is there underwater.
It was a heart-breaking scene that they found underwater. It was filled with plastic, filled with cloth. They found some fish, some orange fish, stuck inside transparent plastic bags. Where they saw that it was completely heartbreaking for them.
Plastic pollution has become severe along India's coastline. Subhash Mandapalli and his friends are trying to fix the problem, One dive, at a time. They started the clean-up drive in 2019. Every day they doing something for the ocean. When they removed and clean that area and see those fish roaming around their home, that gives them the greatest satisfaction at the end of the day.
They have so far removed 10,000kg of plastic from the sea. Many other divers have also joined the initiative. Being a diver, underwater is a second home for them. Subhash Mandapalli says Next time somebody comes and before throwing things into the sea, at least they will think that there are certain people who are getting in the water, even if it dirty water.
