SSC: Second common skin cancer caused by UV light.
Squamous cell carcinoma(SSC) is the second most common eyelid cancer. Just like BCC, it is caused by UV light but more aggressive and, metastasized to near lymph nodes. Appears ed, raised bump, more commonly on the lower lid with NO telangiectasia. originated in the outermost layer of the skin and it's usually related to sunlessness.
Associated with Actinic Keratosis, fair skin, prior radiation, burn scars, chemical exposure, and other chronic irritation. Appears round erythematous with scaly surface found in sun-exposed areas.
Treatment excision then immunomodulatory and proper protection from the sun. if the pt is elderly who are not surgical candidates. Second-line therapy is radiation after surgical excision.
