Spotify to add content advisory when podcasts cite Covid

Spotify to add covid advisory:

Audio streaming giant Spotify declared Sunday to add content advisories to any material mentioning Covid-19 and direct its users to public health areas for more details.

Spotify is encountering backlash for its conclusion to persist in airing the famous podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience,” despite problems spreading Covid misinformation. Host Joe Rogan questioned Dr. Robert Malone, a contagious infection expert well-known among anti-vaccine Americans. Malone has been restricted from Twitter.

On Saturday, guitarist Nils Lofgren, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, became the latest singer to yank songs from Spotify to oppose the streaming service having Rogan’s podcast.

Published to its website, the report from Spotify CEO Daniel Ek stated that the streaming service has creators with various thoughts, including those “of people and views on Spotify that I counter with extremely.” He did not cite Rogan by name.

“We understand we have a vital role to play in helping creator expression while offsetting it with the safety of our users,” Ek stated. “In that role, it is essential to me that we don’t take on the role of being content censor while also making certain that there are laws in place and results for those who break them.”

Ek stated the firm goals to add a content advisory on any podcast episode that cites Covid-19.
