Sound Of 2022: Mimi Web makes music at the end as her ex-boyfriend finds out

Little did he know when Mimi Webb started recording the EP Seven Shades Of Heartbreak last year that it would be prophetic. Writing a song about a lost love affair focuses her attention on their current relationship - and she doesn't care what she finds because her friend quickly finds out.

"The EP helped me realize that this relationship wasn't right for me," she admits. "It helps me understand what I'm missing... and he might struggle with that, you know?" When he heard the EP, he thought, "Oh my God."

"It's crazy looking back on this EP now," he said in our mid-December conversation. "It came out two months ago, and I'm in a completely different place. It shows how much can change in such a short period."

This applies equally to their personal and professional lives. Seven Shades Of Heartbreak became a top 10 album by 21-year-olds, and she ended the year with her single Good Without on the Christmas particular program Top of the Pops.

He is now third on news Radio 1's Sound Of 2022 list, meaning that he has been named one of the breakthrough stars for next year by a group of more than 130 recording industry experts and fellow musicians.
