Showrunner Reveals Season 2 Storyline, Which Will Involve Samantha's Character

In an interview with Variety published Tuesday, Sex and the City Revival showrunner Michael Patrick King shared several details about the upcoming season of HBO Max, including the return of the character Kim Katral to the show's storyline.

Samantha Jones was introduced in the first season by exchanging text messages with Sarah Jessica Parker's character Carrie Bradshaw. Catral, 65, has said that he doesn't want to return to the franchise, and King has previously said the door is not open for him to return.

However, when King was recently asked if Samantha's character would reappear in Season 2, he replied, "Yes!"

King was reluctant to share more information about the upcoming season. "Everything is very new now," he explained. "One of my big rules is not to say something until it's real."

He added, "My goal is to bring all the characters together in the mix, so there aren't many on separate tracks."

In March, HBO announced that And Just Like That... had been renewed for a second season. Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Christine Davis are set to return as their respective characters - Carrie, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York Goldenblatt - navigating their love, friendship, and career in New York.

"I'm excited and excited to share more stories about this brave hero alive - played by this powerful and extraordinary actor," King said in a statement. "We're all excited. And it's true... our sex life is back." Earlier this month, Parker detailed his split from Catral, admitting it was "complicated to talk about the situation."

"I'm so careful that I never want to say anything uncomfortable," he told the Chatter podcast for the Hollywood Reporter Awards, "because that's how I don't like complicated conversations, you know?"

"It hurts so much for people to keep talking about this 'cat fight' — fight, fight. I've never said a word about anyone I've worked with in my life," Parker said. There is no "fight." There is no public dispute or quarrel, talk, or accusation by me or anyone else on my behalf. I won't do that. I won't do that."

Parker continued, "I just want them to stop calling it a 'cat fight' or a 'fight' because it doesn't reflect that," said one man. And I wasn't going to tell anyone, so it hurt me too." In 2017, Catral bluntly said that he had "never been friends with his former teammates," specifically called Parker.

"I got involved with the guys at Sex and the City, and Sarah Jessica Parker in particular," she told Pierce Morgan on Life Stories. "I think he can do better. I think he can do better. I don't know what the problem is."

Season 2 of And Just Like That... will begin production in October, with plans to stream the series in the summer of 2023, King told Variety.
