Eight ultimatums later! The first season of The Ultimatum made waves at its premiere, but did the bold premise work for either pair?

The Netflix show follows eight duets on the verge of engagement. After a man issues a request for a relationship, they begin a trial marriage with one of their partners and live with the new partner of their choice from the show for three weeks. At the end of three weeks, they move on with their first half and decide whether to stay together, get engaged, go alone, or move on with their experienced partner.

Madeleine Balatori and Colby Kissinger were one of the few couples where the man gave the ultimatum. As a result, fans were shocked when the two not only got engaged in April 2022 final but also married moments later.

"At the end of the photo, we had discussed everything. Every detail we had, like, 'We're married, there can't be any secrets,'" Madeline told Us Weekly in March 2022. "So I don't know if we are a little surprised [looking back]. I guess we were more surprised by what was left of the verses. It was better than we expected to be honest." To give him the chance to marry shortly after he proposed to her if he said yes.

"Once I realized I was committed [to the engagement], I knew I was ready for the next big thing, the wedding, and how about missing another hit when you do it on the biggest stage? Why don't you take the chance?" He told us." And I thought since he said yes to the engagement, why not say yes to the wedding.

Madeline added that she didn't hesitate.

"I know that if I were going to say yes to the proposal, I would have to be willing to give my all," he explained. "I think you saw that I was like, 'What the hell, let's do it.' I never wanted a big wedding."
