Three medals were awarded to women athletes at the Olympics this year. How do you see the growth of women's sports?

Women's sports have been growing for the last ten years. This is an ongoing process. Gradually the players are being identified. She is India's most significant star female player, including in cricket.

What was the atmosphere like about women's sports when you started playing?
There were no big active female players when I started playing. Only PT Usha's name was mentioned. This was not easy for me. Others were also asking if you could play Wimbledon. They were all smiling. It was a difficult journey. I found success and recognition. Earlier, one or two names of women players were coming up. Today 10-12 words come to mind in a second.

When did you start following women's cricket? People like it too; how does this change feel?

Earlier, for me, women's cricket meant Mithali Raj. Like me, he is from Hyderabad. We always met. I always followed him. Now Harmanpreet, like Smriti, has many stars. Our players also played 'The Hundred' in England.

You faced many challenges. What advice would you give to women cricketers to meet these challenges?

I don't want them to face a situation like mine. Then, the women could hear how to play, to turn black, who to marry. But now times and ideas have changed. The credit goes to the women's champions.

What has been the contribution of women players in the country's game? Do you think the future of the game is female players?

I don't think there will be a success with just female players. I want everyone to win. Now it is not seen whether the champion is a boy or a girl. We should prepare advocates every year. So as not to have to wait 10-15 years.
