REvil Ransomware Group Website Vanished Of The Internet Disappearance Is Not Necessarily Unusual.

The website of a Russian-linked ransomware gang accused of attacking hundreds of companies around the world is offline. Observers said the REvil group payments website and the blog suddenly became unavailable on Tuesday. The cause of the disappearance is unknown but has led to speculation that authorities may have deliberately targeted the group.

This comes amid growing pressure between the United States and Russia over cybercrime. US President Joe Biden said he raised the issue on Friday during a phone call with Vladimir Putin after raising the issue at a summit with the Russian president in Geneva last month.

Biden told reporters he had "made clear ... we expect them to act on the information" and also hinted that the United States could fetch digital responses directly on the servers used for the intrusion. Tuesday's hiatus fueled speculation that US or Russian officials may have cracked down on Ravil - although officials have yet to comment and cyber experts say the group's sudden disappearance is not necessarily unusual.

It developed after a series of high-profile ransomware attacks that hit significant US companies this year. The FBI accused REvil - aka Sodinokibi - of being behind a ransomware attack on the world's largest meat processing company, JBS, last month.

The group is believed to be prolific and, last week demanded a hefty bitcoin ransom for attacks on IT firm Kaseya and hundreds of other companies worldwide.

Rumor has it that there was a hyperdrive behind this sudden shutdown, but a hacker claiming to be a gang member gave me some ideas. I haven't confirmed his identity yet, but other researchers say his claims are very plausible.

He claims that the US "stated" "downloaded" items from their website, taking the rest of their work. He also said there meant pressure from the Kremlin, saying, "Russia is wary of the United States and other countries calling out to them."
