Restart Gritty Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reveals first trailer
In 2019, a fan of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air got the idea to remake the sitcom as a flashy drama and even made a fake trailer to show what it might look like.
Three years later, show star Will Smith made it happen - and the first actual trailer was revealed.
The protagonist is still moving from West Philadelphia, born and raised, to his aunt and uncle's lavish mansion in affluent LA suburbs.
Jabbari Banks plays the new Will, with Adrian Holmes as Uncle Phil
Instead of the excellent comedy of the original from the 1990s, the new show - titled Bel-Air - is earnest.
In the original, the famous theme melody explains that Will fights a skirmish and his mother is frightened.
This is still the case in the new version - but guns get involved in an altercation on the basketball court, and hardened crooks from Philadelphia are looking for them.
Will, now played by Jabari Banks, is adopted by his Uncle Phil and Aunt Vivian, who must defend him and make up a story about moving to LA to get a better education.
The new trailer also presents us to the latest incarnations of Carlton's cousins Ashley and Hillary and butler Jeffrey, played by British actor Jimmy Acingball.
Will Smith is developing a new show with fan-made original trailers, ambitious director Morgan Cooper.
"Three years ago, my husband Morgan Cooper uploaded a trailer to his fans on YouTube showing how he imagined The Fresh Prince as a drama," Smith wrote on YouTube.
"Well, here's the first full look. He's a retelling of a story that has always been close to my heart."
