R. Kelly Abused Alia When She Was 13 Or 14 Years Old.
Key Sentence:
- In court, one of her former dancers said that R. Kelly sexually abused the late R&B singer Alia when she was 13 or 14 years old.
The woman, who testified as Angela, said at Kelly's trial that she saw the star at the top of the list having sex with Alia on a tour bus. The alleged incident took place a year then Kelly illegally married the singer at the age of 15. Kelly, 54, denies all charges against him.
This includes one subject of extortion - which describes him as the founder of a criminal enterprise whose primary goal is to "plunder young women and youth for sexual purposes." He was also charged with eight violations of the interstate sex trafficking law.
The singer, who full name is Robert Kelly, has not been charged with rape or assault, but prosecutors can show evidence of a potential crime linked to the racketeering charge regardless of when it occurred. He is the tenth prosecutor to stand up and tell the story of minor sexual abuse that many witnesses have previously voiced.
She said she started having sex with Mr. Kelly in 1991 when he was still in school.
They met at a party at his house when he was about 15 years old. At some point, he said, he invited her into the bedroom and "asked me to come to him." He hesitated but told the court that he eventually agreed to his demands and that they had sex.
Mr. Kelly then invited him to be part of his entourage. She claims the star often pressures others to have sex and will punish those who don't follow her instructions. The Aaliyah incident occurred in 1992 or 1993 when Angela and another young woman decided to joke with Mr. Kelly; he told the court.
After opening her bedroom door, she said, "I saw Robert and Alia in a sexual situation." He added: "I suddenly closed the door and pushed the girl out of the door behind me."
Mr. Kelly's relationship with Alia - his former protégé - is at the center of the process. Witnesses previously testified that they falsified documents so that the couple could marry when Alia was old. However, Angela was the first to tell the jury that she saw the couple engaging in sexual activity.
Her testimony also makes Aliya the youngest woman accused of harassment by Kelly. The star that then emerged from Mr. Kelly to become a successful recording artist died in a plane crash in 2001.
Behavior control
On Monday, I also saw a second male prosecutor testify against Mr. Kelly. He remembered that Mr. Kelly recorded "countless" sexual encounters with women the R&B star frequented under Alex's pseudonym.
Although they first met at the age of 16, she said Kelly first forced her to have sex when she was 20. "I remember him talking to me and then kissing me forcefully and licking my face," Alex testified. Mr. Kelly said Alex "be open," he testified.
Kelly's former assistant also testified on Monday, saying he had not witnessed the abuses alleged by other witnesses. However, Diana Copeland, who has worked with the star for 15 years, paints a picture of the star's controlling behavior that echoes previous statements. The case continues.
