PM Narendra Modi believes that the country would be able to fight the crisis facing the agriculture sector.
Since a few days, the country also hears news & updates about the locust attacks that are taking place in many parts of India. On top of the current scenario of the world that is gripped in the hands of coronavirus, there are other bizarre happenings that are taking place, drawing the attention of many. One amongst these is the recent attacks by locusts. These are like a collection of species which are short-horned grasshoppers having a swarming phase. They are known as species that can destroy anything that comes in their path & also considered to be a threat to food supply affecting the livelihoods of millions.
PM Modi says he is confident the country will overcome this crisis.
However, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on Sunday said that he is confident that even though many parts of India is under the locust attack, the country would be able to deal with this issue & crisis that affects the agriculture sector.
Talking on 'Mann Ki Baat', his monthly radio programme, in its 65th edition, PM Modi said, "While the eastern part of India is facing natural calamity faced by the cyclone, many parts of the country are under locust attack. These attacks have reminded us how much damage this small insect can cause. Locust attacks run into several days, a huge area gets affected."
He further added saying that all are using modern resources to help farmers whether it is the centre, the state government, the agricultural department or the local administration. He said that he feels confident that we would be able to deal with this crisis & even save a lot in the agriculture sector.
The Ministry of environment, forest & climate change says that the locust attacks have damaged crops & vegetables.
Locust swarms that entered India from Pakistan have already entered Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh & Punjab. A spokesperson from the Ministry of environment, forest & climate change also said that the attacks by these locusts have already damaged vegetables & standing cotton crops, making Rajasthan the most affected state.
