NeoCov new type of coronavirus every three infected people may die
According to scientists at China's Wuhan lab, one in every three infected people may die, who have raised the alarm about a new type of coronavirus, NeoCov.
NeoCov, a new type of coronavirus, has been discovered in South African bats by scientists. Scientists from a lab in Wuhan, China, where the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 was found, have reportedly warned that if NeoCov spreads among humans, it could have a high death rate and a high transmission rate.
According to Russian news agency Sputnik, the NeoCov virus is linked to the MERS-CoV virus, found in Middle Eastern countries between 2012 also 2015.
According to the Russian news agency TASS, scientists in China discovered that the NeoCov coronavirus found in South African bats is a relative of MERS fever, which has symptoms and effects similar to SARS-CoV-2. In addition, according to the report, Chinese researchers discovered that the NeoCov virus has a very high mortality rate - 'one in every three infected individuals.'
"The Vector Research Center is aware of the NeoCoV coronavirus data obtained by Chinese researchers." However, the issue at the moment is not the emergence of a new coronavirus capable of actively spreading among humans," according to a statement from the Russian State Virology and Biotechnology Research Center.
NeoCoV has previously been known to spread only among bats, but a new study published as a preprint suggests that NeoCoV and its close relative PDF-2180-CoV could infect humans.
According to researchers from Wuhan University also the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Biophysics, a single mutation could enable the virus to infiltrate human cells.
