Naturopathy: Prakriti Shakti to Prevent disease

Nature plays a vital role in the greatest healer for living beings. In the context of the human body, it has the healing power for disease prevention and rebuilding a healthy body state.

Naturopathy is a concept of treating illnesses by healing the body from within with the constructive principles of nature on physical, mental, moral and spiritual grounds of living. It has excellent health promotive, disease preventive and curative as well as therapeutic potential. It is based on the concept of treating illnesses by guiding a person to find out the roots of his or her disease and eradicate it with changes in lifestyle, spirit and stress work, diet, nutritional supplements, and exercises.

Treatment does not involve medications that can suppress an illness for a short time, unlike conventional allopathic medicines. Naturopathy treats the body as a whole, and at present, there are more than ten colleges in various states of India such as Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bhopal, and Gujarat.

Basically, health and disease are conditions involving a complex interaction of physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, and social factors. The harmonious functioning of all aspects of the individual is essential to recovery from disease and its prevention, requiring a personalised and comprehensive approach for disease diagnosis and treatment.

Naturopathic medicine is a traditional scientific approach that promotes wellness by identifying the unique aspects of each patient and then employing non-toxic natural therapies such as mud, massage, acupuncture, magnet therapy, hydrotherapy, etc. to restore his or her physiological, psychological, and structural balance.

The American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) defines naturopathic medicine as:  "A distinct system of primary health care-an art, science, philosophy, and practice of the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of illness. Naturopathic medicine is distinguished by the principles upon which its practice is based. These principles are continually re-examined in the light of scientific advances.

The techniques of naturopathic medicine include modern and traditional, scientific, and empirical methods" (AANP, 1998). The ultimate goal of naturopathic medicine is disease prevention, which is accomplished through assessing risk factors and hereditary susceptibility to disease and makes appropriate interventions to avoid further harm and risk to the patient by education and promotion of lifestyle habits that foster good health.
