Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander make a rare appearance on the red carpet at Cannes

Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender's last red carpet appearance was in March 2020.

Michael Fassbender also Alicia Vikander are back in the public spotlight.

The pair made a rare appearance on the red carpet Friday night while attending the Vanity Fair x Louis Vuitton dinner at France's 2022 Cannes Film Festival.

Fassbender, 45, wore a navy suit paired with a white dress underneath for the evening. Meanwhile, Vikander, 33, wore a short, flowy black dress with gold jewelry on the shoulders and completed the look with a black handbag. The couple's presence at the event marked the first time the pair had posed together on the red carpet since March 2020. Fassbender and Vikander recently attended the film's premiere produced by the X-Men star executive director, Calm with Horses.

Vikander also Fassbender met on the set of their 2014 film The Light Between Oceans, where they played a couple on screen. They later married in Ibiza in October 2017 also have since had one child together - a son named Mark, born in 2021.

In September 2021, Vikander spoke to NEWS about becoming a mother and accepting her new life changes. "Now I have a new understanding of life in general," he said. "It's quite beautiful and will give a lot to my future work." When asked to summarize exactly how life has changed since having the baby, the Swedish star said she keeps the finer details to herself but admits she is doing everything possible to keep up with each new phase in life's moments to live.

"I guess I'll wait with this one," he said. "I'm glad to find it now, more than anything."
