Mattea Roach wins 'Jeopardy!' for the 21st time on Tuesday

Key Takeaways:

Mattea Roach, the "Jeopardy!" champion from Nova Scotia, won her 21st game on Tuesday night.

The 23-year-old tutor, who grew up with an interest in atlases, is no longer tied for fifth place on the show with Julia Collins in most consecutive games won. She now has the entire space to herself.

Roach earned another $29,599 on Tuesday, bringing her total earnings to $506,584.

In an interview with CTV News, Roach stated that she is still unsure of what she will do with her earnings but has a few ideas.

"I hope that I'll be likely to invest the vast bulk of it and then look at either setting myself up to graduate school or professional school without carrying on any more debt," she says.

In answer to a question from one of her viewers, Roach says that, despite not knowing what her future holds, law school is a high possibility for her next endeavor.

"But," she adds, "I'm not ready to commit to anything just yet."

Her opponents were Angela Kissner, an educational consultant from Akron, Ohio, and Envir Casimir, a history teacher from San Francisco, California.

Roach tried to buzz in 38 times and was successful 33 times, for an 87 percent success rate, as per the "Jeopardy!" daily box score.

She had 31 correct responses in regular play, giving her an 89 percent correct rate.

Roach has answered 92 percent of questions correctly in her 21 appearances on the show.

Roach's fan base exploded across the region, and she says she was aware of it even before her first game aired.

"Imagine how individuals will react when I get up to, you know, 20 wins without having seen me play one game," Roach says.

Roach, from Halifax but even now lives in Toronto, applied for the long-running game reveal in 2020. She was invited to the movie an episode in Los Angeles in January.

"It's still unbelievable that I was so successful back then," she says.

The Canadian national anthem was featured on Tuesday's "Final Jeopardy!" episode, prompting Roach to wager $4,999.

Roach will try for her 22nd victory on Wednesday.
