Littler Could Face Sherrock at World Championship
Teenage sensation Luke Littler could face history-making player Fallon Sherrock at the 2024 PDC World Championship if she defeats Ryan Meikle in the first round. Littler, 17, has already made waves in the darting world, becoming the youngest-ever finalist at the World Championship, while Sherrock made history five years ago as the first woman to win a match at the prestigious event.
Littler, seeded fourth, lost to Luke Humphries in January’s world final but has been on a remarkable run, winning 10 titles in his debut professional season. Sherrock’s potential clash with Littler would be a highly anticipated encounter, showcasing a unique moment in darting history.
The tournament begins on 15 December at London’s iconic Alexandra Palace, where reigning world champion and second seed Michael Smith will play Kevin Doets or Noa-Lynn van Leuven, who makes history as the first transgender woman to qualify for the World Championship. The top 32 seeds enter in the second round, with the tournament culminating in the final on 3 January 2025.
The world championship bracket also features several notable matchups, including three-time champion Michael van Gerwen facing either James Hurrell or Jim Long, and Gary Anderson battling Jeffrey de Graaf or Rashad Sweeting. Should all the seeded players advance, Humphries and Littler could meet in a highly anticipated semi-final.
Littler and Humphries, who share a friendly rivalry, have already faced off in several memorable matches. Littler triumphed over Humphries in the Premier League in May, while Humphries won their most recent encounter in the Players Championship. Both players have expressed their mutual respect and competitive spirit, with Littler stating, “We bring the best out of each other – we always play well.”
The 2024 PDC World Championship promises to be an exciting tournament, with potential matchups that could define the future of the sport.
