Lessons from Janak Panchal: The power of resilience in cinematography.

“More than anything, it is essential for aspiring talents to understand resilience in filmmaking,” says the young talent from Mumbai.

Though there are several traits and qualities that people refer to when it comes to achieving success in one’s field, there are a few traits however that hold the most importance in taking people toward their definition of success – resilience tops the list.

It is essential to understand what resilience is all about in the context of filmmaking. Well, it refers to the ability to withstand challenges that filmmakers, aspiring talents, and artists may face along their journeys and adapt to changes while persisting in the face of adversity.

“It is common for cinematographers and filmmakers, among other artists in the entertainment realm, to face unforeseen situations and challenges almost every day owing to the unpredictable nature of the entertainment realm.

Hence, people must stay resilient in overcoming those obstacles and creating compelling cinema,” says Janak Panchal, the young creative guy, colorist, photographer, and cinematographer behind several successful projects like short films Bageecha, Kryptonite, and more.

He talks about optimizing resilience in cinematography, highlighting how essential it is for professionals to embrace continuous learning. “Resilience in filmmaking often involves a commitment to continuous learning. Hence, first, individuals need to have a solid education foundation that can help them learn the skills and techniques and enable them to tackle diverse creative and technical challenges at work,” he says.

Since the film industry is an ever-evolving space, with new technologies and trends regularly ruling it, it is essential for individuals to stay adaptable and willing to innovate. Resilience will play a crucial role here, as individuals can remain flexible in the face of these changing tech trends, adapt to them, and optimize them to create impactful cinema and projects.

Resilience also helps in overcoming challenges and handling rejection and criticism, says Janak, who has collaborated with several celebrities, worked on popular YouTube channels “Enes Yilmazer” and “Enes Plus,” and worked as a cinematographer for acclaimed music videos. He says that resilience will allow individuals to handle rejections and criticism constructively, using it as a motivation to improve their work.

In conclusion, Janak (@janakpanchal_) says that cinematographers, filmmakers, and artists should stay resilient, embrace continuous learning, build stronger support networks, and persevere through challenges to create impactful cinema.
