Lauren Laverne Steps Down from 6 Music Breakfast Show After Six Years
Lauren Laverne, the beloved presenter of Radio 6 Music’s Breakfast Show since 2019, has announced her departure from the role. Laverne will transition to the station’s mid-morning slot, allowing her to “set her alarm a little later.”
“It has been a huge honor (and so much fun) to host the breakfast show for six wonderful years, but it is time to pass the baton on,” Laverne said in a statement.
Nick Grimshaw, known for his tenure as the host of the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, will officially take over the breakfast slot after temporarily covering for Laverne since August.
Overcoming Personal Challenges
Laverne’s decision comes after a challenging 2024, during which she underwent treatment for cancer. She shared how the experience deepened her connection with music and radio:
“During my recovery, I learned all over again about the power of music, the people you surround yourself with, and the emotional support and joy radio can provide,” Laverne reflected.
Her successful recovery allowed her to return to broadcasting last November, resuming her roles on The One Show and Desert Island Discs. On Instagram, she expressed gratitude to the medical teams who cared for her and thanked her family for their unwavering support during her treatment.
