Kody Brown, star of Sister Wives, has had difficulty moving on from his divorce from wife Christine Brown. During Sunday's one-on-one reunion special, Kody discussed what went wrong in the couple's previous marriage with host Sukanya Krishnan.
The 52-year-old began by admitting that instead of displaying "arrogance," he should have "validated" Christine's concerns about polygamy. Unfortunately, he didn't realize she had doubts about staying married until he saw the scene on the TLC show.
"I had no idea she was thinking, 'Oh, I don't want to be married to Kody anymore,'" he said. "I mean, I'd heard rumors from my children that she'd been throwing things around, and I'd even heard other wives say, 'Oh, she's always threatened to leave.'
According to Kody, Christine, 49, was frequently "complaining about everything in her life," and the couple's breakup was "a singular moment that had been building up for years."
"I've spent my entire life attempting to make her happy. It's this ongoing burden, "He stated. "Something is missing, there is a problem, and something is going on. It could just be plural marriage."
Before Kody and Christine called it quits, he told her he was no longer interested in having an intimate relationship.
"My interpretation of that experience was that she approached me [after constructing a privacy door in her home] and said, 'Hey, we did this work on the house.' Wasn't that supposed to be for our intimacy?' "He remembered. "'No, it was just stuff we wanted to do,' I said. 'Well, are we going to be joined again?' she asks. I never said no, that we would never be intimate again. I was earning to the issue where I wanted her to address the rumors that I'd been hearing from the kids about her threatening to leave."
