Jurassic World Dominion grosses more than $400 million worldwide

Key Takeaways:

With $143.4 million in North American ticket sales, Jurassic World: Dominion took a big chunk out of the box office. With over $250 million worldwide earnings, the film has already grossed $389 million in just 3 days. According to studio projections, the Chris Pratt-starrer surpassed the $400 million barriers on Monday.

Universal Pictures is the film's distributor. According to the Associated Press, Universal's head of domestic distribution, Jim Orr, said, "We couldn't be happier." He continued, "Jurassic World: Dominion had a broad and ridiculously enthusiastic audience."

Although the picture was critically criticized, it has a low Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 30% but a slightly higher Metacritic average of 59 percent. "Jurassic World Dominion is a trite, half-hearted attempt to generate nostalgia," wrote the Hindustan Times in its assessment. It's a thin, predictable film masquerading as an aesthetically stunning tentpole movie. It uses a lot of visual effects to hide the flaws in its story and manages to make a watchable film, but only just."

Exit polls, however, indicate that audiences are having a good time. On Rotten Tomatoes, it received an A- Cinema Score and an 81 percent audience score, indicating that word-of-mouth will be high in the coming weeks. "You want to see dinosaurs on the big stage, regardless of what critics say," Paul Dergarabedian, Comscore's senior media analyst, said.

Dominion, a Universal Pictures as well as Amblin Entertainment co-production, is the third installment in the Jurassic World trilogy, which debuted in 2015 and introduced Chris Pratt and also Bryce Dallas Howard's characters. Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum reprise their roles in Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park from 1993.

Colin Trevorrow, who helmed the first film in the World trilogy, is back to direct Dominion, in which dinosaurs have broken free, and locusts are endangering the world's food supply.

The creators have stated that Dominion will be the final installment in the Jurassic World franchise, which has grossed over $3 billion in ticket sales. The first alone made almost $1.7 billion over the world. With the original Jurassic Park trilogy included, the total for the franchise rises to $5 billion.

Films like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($930 million), Top Gun: Maverick ($747 million), as well as now Jurassic World Dominion are indications that audiences are returning to theatres in greater numbers, according to industry analysts.
