JioMart: an online grocery delivery service from Reliance competes directly with Flipkart, Amazon & Grofers.
Many households resorted to shopping from online grocery delivery stores like Grofers, Amazon & Flipkart, looking at the consistent demand from consumers, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) also decided to enter the same market niche with their new venture JioMart that will deliver groceries & kitchen essentials to households. Reliance soft-launched the venture only on a pilot basis in few parts of Maharashtra like Navi Mumbai, Kalyan & Thane which is powered by and Reliance Jio Reliance Retail.
Walking on similar lines with Amazon Prime Now & Grofers, JioMart also acts as an online market that connects offline retailers with online buyers & does not make direct selling to consumers. Consumers can approach the online market for buying their necessities from their nearby retailers. Groceries are obtained from nearby merchants & not from a native warehouse.
Ambani talked about their new venture at the 42nd annual general meeting (AGM) at RIL, saying that it associates three crores offline retailers with over 20 crore Indian households. JioMart is an online-to-offline store where consumers can meet their daily grocery needs by connecting to offline retailers in their locality.
JioMart is soon going to spread across other regions of the country as well. Jio users have started getting invitees to make use of introductory offers on JioMart, according to a report by LiveMint.
A Reliance retail officer told LiveMint that they are soon going to launch an app for JioMart. The same has also been mentioned on the JioMart website for the app to be launched on both Android & iOS. They talk about offering over 50,000 groceries at cost-effective rates. Reliance also offers a free home delivery option without any minimum order restriction. It provides “no questions asked return policy” & express delivery service. At JioMart, retailers can become sellers after filling a pre-registration form on their website & can save up to Rs 3,000 when the app gets launched. They have termed this venture as “Desh Ki Nayi Dukaan” (country's new shop.)
JioMart will partner with sellers to equip them with GST compliance, inventory management skills, supply chain management & integrated billing applications, low-interest working capital & the point of sale (PoS) terminals.
