Janet Jackson's Latest Documentary 'Puts Certain Things to Rest,' According to a Source

Key Takeaways:

Janet Jackson is willing to move forward now that the truth has been revealed.

Janet, the two-part Lifetime documentary in which the singer, 55, laid it all out on the table, has been released, and a source tells PEOPLE exclusively that she "hopes to put certain things to rest."

"Although Janet has always been a very private person, she has wanted to tell her story for a long time," a music source says. "She wished for the truth to be revealed on several issues. She enjoys this series in which she talks about her life and career."

The documentary revealed some of her most personal struggles, such as her tumultuous relationship with her late father Joe and her brother Michael — as well as her marriages to James DeBarge and  René Elizondo Jr.

According to the source, Janet struggled with sharing the spotlight with other family members, particularly Michael, regarding her career.

"She has a love-hate relationship with being a Jackson, but she understands how different her life would have been if they hadn't helped her break into the music and show business."

"For the most part, Janet has been a loyal Jackson — dealing with the competition and frustrations that come with being a lady in this family, as well as building her career," the source continues.

Their differences "never fully resolved" themselves regarding her "complicated relationship" with her brother Michael. Meantime, a source close to the "Beat It" singer claims that their problems "hurt him for a while," adding that her choices irritated him but that their problems were their faults.

The "All For You" singer has "found fresh meaning in her life" after "making herself a star from her talents and hard work."

"Janet loves being a mom who has been a devoted parent," a music source tells PEOPLE of Eissa, her 5-year-old Child with ex Wissam Al Mana.

According to a Jackson family source, "Janet has changed dramatically since the birth of her son. She appears to be overjoyed. She enjoys being a mother. Her Child is the center of her universe."

Although her son is her primary focus, she strives to balance her professional and personal lives.

"I don't think she'll ever give up her job," says the first source.
