James Cameron's Avatar 2 finally has a title and a release date.

Key Takeaways:

The title of the Avatar sequel has been officially revealed. The film's title is Avatar: The Way of Water, and it was announced at CinemaCon on Wednesday night. The James Cameron film has been in the works for a long time and is one of the most eagerly awaited films.

And, after months of uncertainty, the film's producer, 20th Century Studios, has confirmed the release date. On December 16, 2022, the film will be released. The Sully family is the center of The Way of the Water, which follows the events in Avatar.

The 2022 edition of CinemaCon, an annual meeting for movie theatre owners, is taking place in Las Vegas from April 25 to 28. The event features first looks, trailers, and announcements for several major films ahead of their general release every year.

Two clips from the film were also revealed at CinemaCon and the title announcement. According to some who have seen the footage, such as Screen Rant, the film expands on the original film's scope by introducing newer Na'vi tribes, notably those who live near water.

Avatar 2 is the second installment in a proposed five-film series. According to Disney, Avatar: The Way of Water picks up more than a decade after the first film's events and tells the tale of the Sully family.

Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) have started a young family, which they now have to safeguard from new threats. The film chronicles the difficulty that follows them, the extent to which they go to protect one another, the fights they fight to stay alive, and the catastrophes they face.

With global box office earnings of $2.84 billion, Avatar, released in 2009, became the highest-grossing picture of all time. It was the first movie to gross more than $2 billion. The company will re-release Avatar in theatres on September 23, less than three months before the sequel is released, to whet consumers' appetites.

According to industry analysts, this is being done to introduce the franchise to fresh viewers who may have been unaware of it because the first picture was released 13 years ago.

Avatar: The Way of Water stars Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi, and Kate Winslet, directed by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau.
