Jack Harlow wear a Lil Nas X t-shirt to the BET 2022 Awards in support of singer After Snub
Lil Nas X has been open about the lack of BET nominations this year, saying she feels like being a gay black artist "had to struggle to be seen in this world."
Jack Harlow defends "Industry Baby" friend and collaborator Lil Nas X at the BET 2022 Awards.
On the red carpet go of Sunday's show, the 24-year-old rapper rocked a Lil Nas X T-shirt in support of the musician, who has expressed disappointment with BET over the lack of nominations this year in recent weeks.
In response, 23-year-old Lil Nas X shared a photo of Harlow - who won the Best Male Hip-Hop Artist award and will be performing during the show - on a t-shirt on Twitter, writing: "Wow, what a shame this man."
After announcing the 2022 BET Award nominations earlier this month, Lil Nas X urged the organization not to recognize Montero's latest album or singles, including "Industry Baby" and "That's What I Want," in a series of deleted posts.
"Thanks for the prize bet. Exclusive zero nominations," he wrote on Twitter. "black supremacist!"
After a fan questioned her tweet and asked why she felt she deserved the nomination, Lil Nas X replied, "Idk was probably 3 of last year's best songs, and the critically acclaimed album came out in September, reaching #2 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
In a subsequent tweet, openly gay Lil Nas X further explained his disappointment, saying it was less about a lack of nominations and more about what he perceived as a lack of acceptance.
"I don't even need to be nominated myself," he wrote on another account. "I feel like black gay people have to fight to be seen in this world, and even when we're at the top [they] try to pretend we're invisible."
