India wins last T20 by 2 runs: New Zealand 2-0 in series whitewash
New Zealand bowled out for 111 in 19.2 overs against a target of 16: Captain Rohit-Coach Dravid's pair got off to a flying start.
Kolkata, Dt.21 After Rohit's 3-run captain's innings, Akshar Patel took three wickets for just three runs as India beat New Zealand by three runs in the third and final T20. With this, India whitewashed New Zealand 2-0 in the final of the World T20 Championship in three T20 series.
Rohit Sharma as the captain and Rahul Dravid as the coach also got off to a flying start. New Zealand bowled out for 111 in 18.3 overs against a target of 18 to win the third T20 series in Kolkata. Akshar Patel was declared Player of the Match, and Rohit Sharma was declared Player of the Series.
Seven of New Zealand's batsmen could not even reach the double-figure score as the Indian bowlers were terrific. Akshar took three wickets and Hershal Patel two doors, while Deepak Chahar, Chahal, and Venkatesh Aiyar took 1-1 wickets. New Zealand opener Guptill hit a combative half-century.
Earlier, India scored 17 for seven in the third and final Twenty20 against New Zealand. Ishan Kish, who replaced Rahul in the team, came in the opening and scored four runs. Shreyas Aiyar scored four, and Deepak Chahar scored unbeaten 21 off four balls.
Santner, who was captaining Southee, was quick for three wickets for just four runs. While Bolt, Milne, Ferguson, and Ish Sodhi were short 1-1 doors. The Indian batsmen lost wickets at intervals. New Zealand's bowlers and fielders were seen as helpless despite their aggressive performances.
The duo of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan created a sensation by batting with an explosive partnership of 5 runs in just four balls. After India crossed the 100 mark, Rohit also returned to the pavilion.
Shreyas and Venkatesh Aiyar combined for 2 runs. After which Akshar Patel shared 4 runs off 17 balls with Hershal Patel and unbeaten 6 runs off 6 balls with Deepak Chahar. Akshar was not out for two. While Hershal Patel scored 17 off 11 balls and Deepak Chahar scored an unbeaten 31 off 9 balls.
