India has been elected as a non-permanent member in the united nation security councilor for on 2021-2022 years.

India, a candidate supporting the Asia-Pacific States, won 184 of the 192 ballots cast for the five non-permanent seats on the Security Council, the most powerful organ of the world body.

India is the sole candidate for the non-permanent seat from the Asia-Pacific category for the term 2021-22. The victory was expected last year with the support of the 55-member Asia-Pacific group, including china and Pakistan. On Friday, China reacted lightly to India's election as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, saying that as a permanent member, it would seek to increase cooperation with all newly elected members of the UN's top organ.

Under Rule 83 of the Rules of Procedure, non-permanent members of the Security Council are elected by a two-thirds majority. The names of the states serving as permanent members of the Security Council are listed in Annex IV.
