Hannah Horka: Czech singer dies after accidentally contracting Covid.

A Czech folk singer has died after accidentally catching Covid; her son told the News. Hannah Horka, 57, was not vaccinated and posted that she recovered from testing positive but died two days later on social media.

His son Jan Rek said he deliberately caught it when he and his father caught the virus to get recovery clearance to gain access to specific locations. Mr. Reck and his father, who are both fully vaccinated, contracted Covid over Christmas. But she says her mother decided not to stay away from them, preferring to expose herself to the virus.

"He had to be isolated for a week because we tested positive. But he was with us the whole time," he said. Proof of vaccination or recent viral infection must access many social and cultural sites in the Czech Republic, including cinemas, bars, and cafes.

On Sunday morning, the day she died, Ms. Horka said she was feeling better and dressed for the walk. But then his back started hurting, so he went to sleep in his room.

"It was over in about 10 minutes. He was choking," said his son. Even though she wasn't vaccinated, Jan Reck stressed that her mother didn't believe in some weirder conspiracy theories about the Covid vaccine.

"His philosophy is that he is better off catching Covid than being vaccinated. It's not that we're microchipped or anything," he said.

"When you have real-life examples, it's more telling than just graphs and numbers. You can't sympathize with numbers." The number of Covid cases in the Czech Republic hit a new daily high on Wednesday, with 28,469 cases registered in a population of 10.7 million.

The government recently introduced new measures to combat growth, including mandatory testing for staff and students. In addition, the isolation period for people who test positive but have no symptoms has been reduced from 14 to five days.

On Wednesday, the Czech government announced scrapping plans to make vaccination mandatory for some parts of the population. About 63% of the Czech Republic's total population has been fully vaccinated, compared to the EU average of 69%.
