Grammy Awards: Drake Withdraws Nominations

Drake's 2Grammy nominations for 2022 have been downloaded from his official website. The decision was reportedly made at the request of Drake and his leadership. An Academy of Recording Arts source told Newsbeat that the academy has decided to grant his request.

The reason for this is now unclear, as the rapper's representatives have not yet responded to requests for a statement. Drake was one of five nominees of Best Rap Album, Certified Lover Boy, and Best Rap Performance for Way 2 Sexy.

The official Grammy website states that the two nominations have been removed with no replacement entries, meaning voting for these two categories will continue with only four nominations.

"I think we should stop being surprised every year by severing the connection between Impact Music and this award," he said at the time.

"This is a great time for someone to start something new that we can build on over time and pass on to future generations." Earlier this year, the Grammys removed their anonymous election commission on charges of forgery, favoritism, and racism.

In 2017, Drake was dissatisfied with the award distribution after Hotline Bling was nominated and won for a best rap song.

"Even though Hotline Bling isn't a rap song, the only category I can get into is the rap category," he told OVO. "Maybe because I've raped in the past or because I'm black, I don't understand why." A year later, he refused to introduce his number one album, More Life, for the award.

And after returning to the 2019 awards show, he criticized the Grammy Awards and awards in general on live television.
