Golden Globe: West Side Story and The Power of the Dog win challenging events

West Side Story and The Power of the Dog was the big winners of Sunday's muted Golden Globe Awards ceremony. This year's event was cut short - it took place without a celebrity present, and the ceremony was not even broadcast on television.

The reluctance of this year's event was followed by accusations of corruption and a lack of diversity in the electoral body. As a result, it happened in Los Angeles with no red carpet or official press access.

British winners include Kate Winslet, the best actress in a limited series for Mare of Easttown, and Andrew Garfield. Who was named best actor in the comedy tick or musical Tick Tick ... Boom!

Steven Spielberg's classic 1961 film West Side Story won the best musical or best comedy award, while its two stars, Rachel Zegler and Ariana DeBoz, won the acting award.

Although neither of them attended in person, both actresses mentioned their win on Twitter, with DeBoz also acknowledging the controversy surrounding the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).

"There's still a SO MUCH to be done, but when you've worked so hard on a project – covered in blood, sweat, tears, and love – work that is seen and recognized is always special. Thank you," tweeted DeBose.

Zegler added, "I landed the role of Maria in West Side Story on January 9, 2019. And I just won a Golden Globe for the same achievement on January 9, 2022. Life is so weird."

On the side of Benedict Cumberbatch and Kirsten Dunst, Australia plays a shy young man who gets into a complicated relationship with an abusive cowboy after an initially hostile relationship. Cumberbatch was nominated for Best Dramatic Actor for his role in the film but lost to Will Smith, who won his role in King Richard.

In the film, Smith plays Richard Williams, the father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams, and follows a determined father who prepares his daughter to become a world champion.

Golden Globe 2022: winners and nominees

Best Drama Actress was awarded to Nicole Kidman for her role as TV legend Lucille Ball in Aaron Sorkin's "Being Ricardos," which marked her fifth Globe win. The film, in which Kidman plays the lead role with Javier Bardem, follows the week of production of the American sitcom I Love Lucy. Thank you for the confession!" Kidman posted on his Instagram story. "Lucille here's to you and all the other great nominees."
