Firms are lining up to push to engage coders who have been caught up in Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
Several two million-plus Ukrainian residents have been displaced in recent weeks, some of them having in-demand technical skills.
Dozens of firms have broadcasted over 500 job ads for tech roles on a Remote Ukraine website that’s been set up to support companies worldwide hiring Ukrainians. The firms are mainly from Europe, but some are also from the U.S. and Canada.
Companies such as Modular Automation and WarDucks in Ireland, Sportradar in Switzerland, and Drive System Design in England, are among the tech firms that have shared employment ads on the site, with roles on request varying from a Web3 designer to a senior 3D artist.
Martin Armstrong, the founder of U.K.-based Somerton, a tech forum that seeks to partner athletes with coaches, told CNBC that he’d made five verbal requests to engineers, content writers, and tech salespeople. The problem is he can’t get visas for them.
“There is no function if you do not have links here,” Armstrong stated. ”(U.K. Interior Minister). Priti Patel says she is altering it. Here’s hoping.”
He’s made a legal bid to another Ukrainian driving to Warsaw to work remotely for him.
Elsewhere, London-based business software company Cutover has set up a separate “fast-track” engineering role, especially for displaced Ukrainian engineers.
