Fred Savage was fired as director of 'The Wonder Years' EP over alleged misconduct

"We were recently briefed on allegations of misconduct by Fred Savage and, as is the case in politics, have opened an investigation," a 20th TV spokesperson told the news.

Fred Savage has been fired as executive producer and director of ABC's Wonderful Years because he faces misconduct charges, a spokesperson for 20th Television told the news.

Following his termination, the decision was made to terminate his work as executive producer and director of The Wonder Years," the representative said.

Deadline is the first to announce the news.

Representative Savage, 45, did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

The series, which premiered in September, is a reboot of the original series, which ran from 1988 to 1993 and was produced by Network 20 at Disney Television Studios.

Both series, which are set in the 1960s, are told from the point of view of a 12-year-old boy guided by life with his family and friends. Savage played Kevin Arnold, and Elisha "EJ" Williams starred in the reboot. The revival season finale is scheduled to air on May 18. It has not been updated for a second season. The allegations come four years after actress Ali Mills, who played Savage's mother Norma Arnold in the original, claimed in 2018 that a sexual harassment lawsuit against the actor and Jason Hervey ended the show in 1993. Hervey played Savage's older brother, Wayne Arnold.

According to Vanity Fair, costume designer Monique Long sued the brothers on television in 1993, claiming their alleged verbal and physical abuse prevented them from doing a good job and led to their firing. The case was finally resolved and terminated.

"One of this new show's beautiful and exciting effects is getting me back into orbit with the original cast," the actor said. "I spoke with Josh [Saviano, who plays Paul Pfeiffer] and Danica [McKellar, who plays Winnie Cooper] and Dan [Lauria, who plays his father Jack Arnold], and we exchanged emails."
