Five Chinese districts feel lockdown again
Schools, colleges and other institutions have been closed
due to the rise in Covid cases in Shanghai, known as China's financial hub.
According to media reports, 47 Covid patients were found in Shanghai on
Wednesday, the highest in the last three months. All but two patients are in
quarantine.
In response to fears of community transmission, a lockdown has been imposed in five of Shanghai's 16 districts this week to test people for Covid.
Fear of spreading infection
According to media reports, the 5 districts currently under lockdown include Pudong, which saw the highest number of patients at the start of the outbreak. Bars, theaters and other entertainment venues are arranged in these districts. Children have been banned from coming to school for fear of spreading the infection.
On that the local administration said- no order has been given to close the schools. Only crowded places have been closed due to the risk of infection.
National Congress session from 16 October
The 20th National Congress is scheduled to be held in China from October 16 to 18. This convention is held once in five years. There is also talk that President Xi Jinping may announce an extension of his term at the convention. Meanwhile, the rise in Covid cases has raised the concern of the local administration.
China has not come out of covid and lockdown
While countries around the world are moving forward post-Covid and lockdown, China is still adamant about its zero-Covid policy. Lockdown has been implemented in North China's Fenyang city on Monday.
Another city, Hohhot, has banned people and vehicles from outside. A negative Covid report is required within 72 hours to enter parks, offices, shops and any public place in China.
Criticism of China on Zero Covid Policy
China continues to face criticism for its zero covid policy. According to this policy, the multinational companies are suffering huge losses here due to the lockdown. According to the Air Report of the European Chamber of Commerce, many of these companies are preparing to shift their markets away from China.
