West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is on a four-day visit to the capital Delhi from today ahead of the winter session of Parliament. However, even before Mamata Banerjee's arrival in Delhi, her MPs have been instructed to reach here. Mamata is coming to Delhi at a time when Sayani Ghosh, president of the West Bengal Youth Unit in Tripura, has been arrested on Saturday night on charges of attempting to assassinate Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. Apart from this, before Mamata's Delhi tour, reports have been circulating in the media about whether BJP MP Varun Gandhi will join the TMC.
Corporation elections are to be held this weekend, and both the TMC and the BJP are launching various attacks on each other. On the other hand, the winter session of Parliament is scheduled to begin on November 29, with the government facing many questions from the opposition. This will be her second trip to the capital after Mamata Banerjee's victory in the West Bengal elections in April-May this year. Mamata had earlier made it clear that she would visit Delhi every two months. However, they have been coming to Delhi since July.
Political pundits say that after defeating the BJP in West Bengal, Mamata has been coming to Delhi frequently because she wants to create an atmosphere that she is the most potent face of the opposition.
The TMC supremo could develop a joint strategy with the opposition leaders to encircle the BJP in Parliament. It is being start that the winter session of Parliament could be tumultuous after the announcement of the repeal of the three agricultural laws, with the opposition preparing to surround the government. Mamata will meet opposition leaders to make this more robust.
Mamata Banerjee is reaching out to strengthen opposition unity as part of a strategy. Mamata's visit to Delhi is also considered necessary as elections are held in five states from next year. Mamata's party is also contesting next year's Goa assembly elections.
