"Fashion and beauty are about losing yourself, self-confidence": Catherine Langford
"I think it's important to have personality in the way you dress," said the 13 Reasons star, currently attending the Cannes Film Festival.
After impressing fans also critics alike with her role as Hannah Baker, the troubled teenager on the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why - a series that focuses on mental health issues, abuse, and gun violence - Catherine Langford has only moved up one level.
The Knives Out actress, who is currently attending the 75th Cannes Film Festival in France, recently spoke to indianexpress.com ahead of her French Riviera red carpet debut. Her first appearance was a brilliantly designed Prada gown for the Final Cut (Coupez!) screening.
She spoke to us about her appearance on the red carpet, L'Oréal Paris' relationship with Cannes, the Lights On Women award honoring female directors, everyday fashion, makeup, skincare, etc.
L'Oréal Paris celebrates 25 years of partnership with Cannes. What do you say about the club, and how special is it to you?
The Cannes Film Festival has ever been very special to me. The combination of film, fashion, and the director is exceptional and exciting. So it's even more exciting to get together and celebrate the movie. [It's] the 25th anniversary of L'Oréal Paris sponsoring the festival, so it's a real privilege and honor, and I'm happy to be here.
The Lights On Women Award from L'Oréal Paris honors a female director. What do you think about the brand and the future of filmmaking?
This is the award's second year - last year was the first - and it's a beautiful initiative to shed light on the promising female director. One of the things I love about them is that they stand behind their values of empowerment and equality, and that is just another example of how they empower women. So it's a privilege to stand beside them, and it's also exciting to be a part of the conversation as young actresses and women and help directors tell phenomenal stories through their lens.
